Panel Discussion
Queen’s University Belfast
25 March 2026
This multisectoral panel discussion on Confronting and Overcoming Barriers to the Clean Energy Transition in Northern Ireland: Re-thinking Policy, Planning, and Participation aims to think-through the barriers confronting NI’s progress on achieving its 2030 energy decarbonisation targets, and identify actionable, sustainable and practical ways forward.
Jointly organised by Dr. Dipali Mathur and Prof. John Barry at Queen’s University Belfast, this panel discussion stems from the recently released report (October 2025) by the NI Auditor and Comptroller General stating that NI is signficantly off-track in meeting its 2030 energy decarbonisation targets.
In bringing together councillors, academics, industry, and third sector organisations, this event will include two panel sessions: the first panel will focus on Confronting Barriers in Energy Policy, Planning, and Participation, while Panel 2 will focus on Identifying Actionable Ways Forward.
This is a free event and will be open to all.
